Innovation in Practical Nurse Education Award (Individual)
The CAPNE Innovation in Practical Nurse Education Award (Individual) recognizes the outstanding work of an individual who was able to re-envision traditional models for PN education.
Nomination Criteria
Describe how the innovations of the nominee:
- Has potential to sustain for at least one year and has achieved desired outcomes
- Has the potential for replication at other educational institutions
- Has involved collaborations with inter-professional teams of faculty when possible (eg: Nursing, Paramedicine, Personal Support Worker, etc)
- Demonstrates advancement of Practical Nurse education
- Demonstrates leadership in innovative and creative teaching methods for the diverse student body
Innovation in Practical Nurse Education Award (Team)
Description The CAPNE Innovation in Practical Nurse Education Award (Team) recognizes the outstanding work of a team in the creation and implementation of a project or an innovation that enhances PN education.
Nomination Criteria:
Describe how the innovations of the nominated team:
- Has potential to sustain for at least one year and has achieved desired outcomes
- Has the potential for replication at other educational institutions
- Has involved collaborations with inter-professional teams of faculty when possible (eg: Nursing, Paramedicine, Personal Support Worker, etc)
- Demonstrates advancement of Practical Nurse education
- Demonstrates leadership in innovative and creative teaching methods for the diverse student body
Mentorship in Practical Nurse Education Award
The CAPNE Mentorship in Practical Nurse Education Award recognizes excellence in a variety of mentorship functions. This award will be presented to an individual who exhibits exceptional mentoring abilities.
Nomination Criteria:
Describe how this nominee:
- Invests their time and expertise to mentor another person
- Is dedicated to the professional growth of other educators
- Demonstrates exceptional mentoring abilities
Leadership in Practical Nurse Education Award
The CAPNE Leadership in Practical Nurse Education Award is meant to recognize an individual who motivates and inspires excellence at their educational facility. This individual may or may not present in a formal leadership role but demonstrates leadership skills. The goal of the award is to honour those individuals who have made sustained contributions to the advancement of Practical Nurse education.
Nomination Criteria:
Describe how this nominee:
- Demonstrates excellent people management skills, commitment to education and strong development and planning ability
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for, and leadership in, scholarship, teaching and learning
- Makes contributions that influence the development of new dimensions and directions in the Practical Nursing program and/or the role of the Practical Nurse profession
- Advocates for the Practical Nurse program
- Contributes to the Practical Nurse program’s visibility and position among other programs and educational facilities
- Be involved in Practical Nurse Education in Canada
- Have not received a CAPNE award previously
Who can nominate:
Colleagues with the consent of the nominee
Process for Selection:
The CAPNE Jurisdictional Representatives will review the submissions and will select the award recipients. Recipients will be notified by end of June. The awards will be presented at the CAPNE conference each fall. Award recipients will receive complimentary conference registration in the year the award will be presented. Recipients of the team award will receive a maximum of two complimentary registrations.
While we recognize the dedication and leadership that current CAPNE Jurisdictional Representatives demonstrate they are not eligible to receive the CAPNE awards and will also be exempt from decisions regarding nominations that they have made or participated in.

Award recipients will give permission for their name and photo to be posted on the CAPNE website and social media pages.
Due to COVID-19, the 2020 CAPNE Awards have been cancelled for this year. Please come back next year to nominate your colleagues.
To nominate an individual for a CAPNE award, please:
- Phase I
- Complete this nomination form
- Sign the nomination form and have the nominee sign the form
- Attach the nomination summary (maximum 1000 words) outlining how the nominee meets the award criteria
- Phase II
- A screening process will happen after Phase I and the nominator(s) will be contacted by a CAPNE Jurisdictional Representative to inform them if they are moving into Phase II of the selection process. If so, 1 -2 letters of support for the nomination (for example: supervisor, student, etc.) must be provided.
